Obsidian Properties
Obsidian is a lustrous volcanic glass with a varied range of colors that is produced when felsic lava extruded from a volcano cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth. It is commonly found within the margins of rhyolitic lava flows known as obsidian flows, where the chemical composition (high silica content) causes a high viscosity which, upon rapid cooling, forms a natural glass from the lava.It is known as an excellent grounding stone, helping one to establish a connection from the base of their spine to the heart of the earth. Many use this stone as a shield against negativity. Obsidian may help one to find clarity of one’s future decisions in life.
